Highlights

For the 2017 ranking, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., maintained its #1 position for the fourth year in a row, with revenues totaling more than $485 billion. For the eight years that Leadership Directories has published the Leadership® 1000 ranking, Walmart has never dipped below position #2, perpetually swapping places at the top spots with Exxon Mobil Corporation.

Rounding out the list at #1,000 is Werner Enterprises, Inc., with revenues of $2.008 billion. Werner previously appeared in Leadership® 1000 seven times with the following ranks: 2016 (at # 992), 2013 (at #996), 2012 (at #999), 2011 (at #968), 2010 (at #976), 2009 (at #913) and 2008 (at #927).
 

Largest jump:

+334  OneMain Holdings, Inc., which rocketed up to 638th from 972nd.
 

Largest decline:

-267  Envision Healthcare Corporation, which fell from 304th to 571st.
 

Largest revenue increase:

+$29B  Amazon, Inc., with nearly $136B in annual revenue.
 

Largest revenue declines: 

-$43B  Exxon Mobil Corporation, which also had the largest decline in last year's rankings.
 

Women in leadership: 

Females represent 24.2% of senior management and 18.9% of C-suite positions at Leadership® 1000 companies as of 8/24/17. That's up from 23.5% and 18.3% last year, respectively.
 

Ivy League representation: 

310 CEOs at Leadership® 1000 companies earned a total of 342 Ivy League degrees at Brown (8), Columbia (29), Cornell (22), Dartmouth (20), Harvard (131), Penn (82), Princeton (24), or Yale (26).

 

MBA not required: 

350 heads of Leadership® 1000 companies attained an MBA, 59 achieved a JD, and 21 completed PhD programs. Compared to last year's rankings, that's 9 more MBAs, 11 fewer JDs, and three fewer PhDs.
