Brigit Helgen

Office of Senator Amy Klobuchar (DFL-MN)

At the beginning of August 2017, Senator Amy Klobuchar (DFL-MN) named Brigit Helgen as her new chief of staff. Helgen replaced Elizabeth Peluso, who left to join the Committee on Rules and Administration as staff director. Helgen began her career on the Hill in 2009 as the deputy press secretary for Senator Mark Pryor (D-AR). After serving in Senator Pryor’s office for two years, Helgen joined Senator Klobuchar’s office as press secretary in 2011. Helgen worked on Senator Klobuchar’s communications team for four years, and in 2015 was promoted to deputy chief of staff. Helgen left the Senator’s office to join President Barack Obama’s administration as the deputy assistant U.S. trade representative for congressional affairs, where she worked until Obama left office. House Committee on Armed Services

On August 21, 2017, Representative Mac Thornberry (R-TX, 13th), announced the appointment of Jen Stewart as the new staff director for the majority on the House Committee on Armed Services (HASC). Stewart, a former congressional aide with extensive experience in national security policy, replaced longtime Republican Staff Director, Bob Simmons, who left the committee in May 2017 to join Boeing. Prior to joining the committee, Stewart worked as a senior advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford. From 2007 to 2016, Stewart served as a policy advisor to former Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH, 8th), and then served in the same capacity under his successor, current Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI, 1st).
