Stalemate Ends with a Democratic Victory

Roy A. Cooper

The North Carolina gubernational race was finally decided after dragging out for almost a month. Incumbent Republican Governor Pat McCrory conceded to Democratic challenger and current attorney general Roy Cooper. Cooper originally claimed victory on election night; the election was challenged by Pat McCrory allies which resulted in a recount of votes in Durham County. After the recount showed barely any change, McCrory had to accept defeat. Roy Cooper has served as North Carolina’s attorney general since 2001 and as Governor plans to focus on schools, rather than social issues. View profile ↓

The Office Stays in Democratic Hands

Joshua “Josh” Stein

Republican Buck Newton conceded on Monday December 5, 2016 to Democrat Josh Stein in the North Carolina attorney general race. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, has held this seat for the past 16 years and will give it up in January to become Governor of North Carolina. Stein has worked under Cooper in the past as a senior deputy attorney general and most recently served as state senator for a portion of Wake County for the past six years. View profile ↓
