Mike Hunter Appointed Oklahoma Attorney General

Mike Hunter

On February 20, 2017, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin appointed Secretary of State Mike Hunter to serve as attorney general. Hunter is replacing Scott Pruitt, who stepped down from the office on February 17, 2017 after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Cara Rodriguez served as acting attorney general during the interim period. Hunter was first assistant attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General, but left in October 2016 after being appointed Secretary of State. Howell Will Not Run for Reelection

Virginia House of Delegates

William Howell, the longtime Speaker of the Virginia House of Delegates, announced he will not be running for reelection in November 2017, bringing his three-decade long tenure in the chamber to a close. Howell was first elected to the House in November 1987, and became Speaker in 2003. He represents District 28, which covers portions of the City of Fredericksburg and Stafford County. Howell announced his retirement on his website, saying, “Serving as the Speaker of the House for 15 years now truly has been the greatest professional honor of my life.” The Republican caucus later voted to designate current Majority Leader Kirk Cox to serve as the next Speaker of the House. Cox, who represents District 66, will take over the new job on January 10, 2018, provided the Republican Party maintains control of the House of Delegates following the 2017 general election.
